Ailein Duinn

Gura mise tha fo eislean
moch sa mhaduinn is mi g'eirigh
O hi shiubhlainn leat
Hi ri bho, ho rinn o ho
Ailein Duin, o hi shiubhlainn leat

Ma 's'en cluasag dhuit a ghaineamh
Ma 'se leabaidh dhut an gheamainn

Ma 's en t-iasg do choinlean geala
Ma 's na Righ do luchd-faire

M' achanaich gu Righ na cathrach
Gun mi dhol an úir no'n anart
Ach 'san áit' an deach thu Ailein.

How sorrowful I am
Early in the morning rising
O hi I would go with you
Hi ri...
Brown-haired Alan, o hi I would go with you

If your pillow is the sand
If your bed is the seaweed
O hi Iwould go with you...

If the fish are your bright candles
If the seals are your watchmen
O hi I would go with you...

My prayer to the King on the throne
That I will not go into the earth nor in linen
But into the place you went, Alan
O hi I would go with you...

The last verse does not quite fit in with the melody, but this is the way I found it written down. Maybe one has to exchange the "o hi shiubhlainn leat" with the last line...
